Dementia Action Week
What a way to celebrate Dementia Action Week! Fifty-five living with dementia joined us on the Queen Mary vintage bus led by Worthing Town Crier, Bob Smytherman. As part of the trip, we visited our brand new Dementia Hive in Lancing!
The classic 1970s vehicle, which was initially used on limited Brighton town routes, during the early 70s was the backbone of Southdown services in Sussex, including Lancing, Worthing and the surrounding coastal areas. Our dementia troop and their carers enjoyed this excursion which was a true ‘blast from the past’.

First, we started the day at the opening of our Lancing Dementia Hive and when everyone had settled down on the bus, it was the start of a very exciting open roof adventure! After a celebration Buck’s Fizz, the ribbon was cut and we headed off to The Henty Arms for a fantastic afternoon tea sponsored by Stanford Legal Services. Bob Smytherman helped everyone get into the spirit with songs and cheers. We got lots of happy waves when taking photos!

On arrival at The Henty Arms we enjoyed tea and coffee with a lovely selection of nibbles and sandwiches. And of course a bit of bubbly! It was a smashing day out and a great start to our Dementia Action Week initiatives.

Thank you to Stagecoach for taking us on a tour around Worthing, Lancing and Ferring in this beautiful bus! Scroll down for some show-stopping sightseeing photos!
