Support Angela as She Runs the Manchester Marathon for Beehive Care

On 19th April, Angela will be taking on the Manchester Marathon in support of her local Community Dementia Hive in Lancing — and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Angela and her mum, Eva, have been attending our Dementia Café in Lancing (Worthing) on Tuesdays for the past few months. Each week they join us for a cuppa, a chat, and the opportunity to share experiences, advice and plenty of laughter with others who are living with dementia.

Angela wanted to share a little of their journey so far:

“I started visiting the Hive after hearing about it through our local dementia nurse. At first I thought what a lovely idea — pop in for a coffee and a chat to give my mum and dad a bit of time apart and for me to spend some time with my mum in a safe environment.

After a few visits, I realised how much people really enjoyed and relied on the drop-in café, looking forward to each visit, catching up on people’s weeks and getting help and advice from staff and other carers’ experiences.

The Dementia Hive has become part of our weekly routine — getting to see everyone thrive from familiar faces with big smiles of recognition, and carers just being able to relax for a couple of hours.

This is why I’ve decided to run the Manchester Marathon — to raise as much money as possible to enable the Hive to carry on doing what they’re doing and to continue offering help, respite and support to families living with dementia.”

We are incredibly touched by Angela’s commitment and determination. Training for a marathon is no small challenge, and she is doing it to ensure that our Dementia Hive can continue to provide vital support, connection and respite for local families.
